QR Code Attendance

QR code attendance is a system in which participants present a QR code at the reception of an event, seminar, class, or similar, and their attendance is recorded automatically when it is scanned. It eliminates the effort of checking names off a paper list and can greatly ease congestion at reception.

The common practice is to issue a unique QR code to each participant in advance and send it by email. On the day, reception staff simply read the codes with a smartphone or tablet, and each participant's name and arrival time are automatically recorded in a spreadsheet or database.

Compared with a paper attendance register, the biggest advantage of QR code attendance is that the tallying work can be automated. In university lectures, systems in which a QR code is posted in the classroom and students record their attendance by reading it with their smartphones have become widespread. In combination with GPS, mechanisms that prevent fraudulent check-ins from outside the classroom have also been introduced.
