Logistics
Logistics encompasses transportation, storage, handling, and packaging of goods from production to consumer. With e-commerce growth driving increasing volumes, efficiency and visibility are the industry's top priorities. QR codes are deeply embedded in logistics for package identification, real-time tracking, and automated sorting.
A typical application prints QR codes on shipping labels containing tracking number, destination, route, and handling instructions. Scanning at each relay point updates the package's real-time location. Unlike 1D barcodes limited to tracking numbers, QR codes carry enough information for minimum viable operations even during system outages.
Large distribution centers use high-speed cameras to read QR codes on conveyor belts for automated sorting at rates of dozens of packages per second. Print quality and placement standardization are essential. GS1-compliant QR codes are increasingly adopted for seamless inter-company data exchange.
