AR

AR (Augmented Reality) overlays digital information (3D models, text, images) on real-world camera views in real time. Consumer applications include games (Pokemon GO), furniture preview (IKEA Place), and virtual cosmetics try-on.

QR codes combined with AR function as content launch triggers. Scanning a product package QR code displays a 3D model or instructional video on the smartphone screen. Museums increasingly use QR codes to trigger AR explanations of exhibits.

Technically, QR codes store URLs or app deep links that launch Web AR (browser-based, via Apple AR Quick Look or Google Scene Viewer) or native AR apps. Web AR requires no app installation, resulting in higher marketing conversion rates compared to app-dependent AR experiences.
