Trademark
A trademark is a name, logo, or symbol that identifies the source of goods or services. Registered trademarks are legally protected against unauthorized use. The most important QR-related trademark is Denso Wave's registered trademark on the name QR Code.
While Denso Wave does not enforce QR code patents, it maintains trademark rights. Using QR Code as a product or service name (e.g., an app called QR Code Reader) may constitute infringement. General descriptive use is fine, though adding a trademark notice is recommended.
When creating design QR codes with embedded logos, trademark considerations apply. Embedding another company's registered trademark without permission may constitute infringement. For your own logo, set error correction to level H (30%) and keep the logo area within the correction tolerance.
