Smartphone Payment

Smartphone payment covers two methods: QR/barcode scanning and NFC tap-to-pay. QR code payments use either user-scan (customer scans store's code) or store-scan (store scans customer's code) workflows.

The user-scan model requires only a printed QR code, making setup virtually free for merchants. This drove adoption even among street vendors. NFC is faster but requires dedicated terminals costing hundreds of dollars, giving QR codes an edge in accessibility.
