URL shorteners redirect long URLs through short URLs. Services like bit.ly and TinyURL are representative. Shortening URLs stored in QR codes keeps the QR code version (size) small.

Many dynamic QR codes internally use URL shortening mechanisms. A key risk is that shortener service discontinuation invalidates links. For long-term printed materials, using your own domain URL or setting up your own redirect is safer.
