SMS (Short Message Service) sends short text messages (160 characters) via phone numbers without internet. QR codes can embed phone numbers and pre-written messages, opening the compose screen on scan.

SMS is widely used for two-factor authentication (2FA), though SIM swap attacks make authenticator apps (Google Authenticator) a more secure alternative.
