rMQR Code

The rMQR Code (rectangular Micro QR Code) is a rectangular QR code standardized as ISO/IEC 23941 in 2022. While the conventional QR code is square, the rMQR Code can take a wide or tall shape, so it can be printed in narrow, elongated spaces where a square QR code does not fit, such as labels, tubes, and wristbands.

It was developed by Denso Wave, and it reduces the finder patterns from the three of the QR code to one and a half. The maximum amount of data it can store is 361 numeric characters or 219 alphanumeric characters.

The rMQR Code is suited to places where a conventional square QR code could not physically be placed, such as small-part labels on production lines, the sides of test tubes and ampoules, and wristbands. There are 32 size variations, from R7×43 to R17×139. However, some scanners and apps do not support it.
