QR Ticket

A QR ticket is a digitized version of event admission tickets, transit passes, or cinema seat tickets using QR codes. Authentication is completed simply by holding a QR code displayed on a smartphone screen up to a reader, eliminating the need for paper tickets.

Ticket data stores encrypted unique identifiers, expiration dates, and seat information. One-time tokens and dynamic QR codes are increasingly adopted to prevent counterfeiting. Mobile boarding passes for airlines are a prominent example of QR tickets in action.
