QR Code Payment

QR code payment is a cashless payment method that uses QR codes. There are two main types:

• Merchant-Presented Mode (MPM): The merchant displays a QR code, and the consumer scans it with their smartphone to pay.
• Consumer-Presented Mode (CPM): The consumer displays a QR code on their smartphone, and the merchant's terminal scans it.

Services like PayPay, Rakuten Pay, and d Barai are widely used in Japan. The merchant-presented type, which requires no dedicated terminal and has low setup costs, has spread to small businesses.
