A QR code invoice features a QR code printed on utility payment slips or business invoices. Scanning with a smartphone banking or payment app auto-fills the amount and payee, allowing direct payment processing.

Previously, visiting a convenience store or bank was necessary, but QR code invoices enable payment from home 24/7. Adoption is expanding to municipal tax and utility bills, with eL-QR (unified local tax QR code) available across municipalities nationwide in Japan.
