Two-Dimensional Code

A two-dimensional code is a general term for codes that store data in both horizontal and vertical directions. While one-dimensional barcodes hold data only horizontally, two-dimensional codes use the entire surface area, allowing far more information to be stored in a small space.

QR codes are the most widely adopted two-dimensional code standard, but others exist including Data Matrix, PDF417, and Aztec Code. Each has different characteristics and use cases: Data Matrix for small component marking, PDF417 for driver's licenses, and Aztec Code for airline boarding passes.
