How to Use QR Code Parking Lots

What Are QR Code Parking Lots

QR code parking lots use QR code tickets issued at entry or smartphone app QR codes for entry, exit, and payment. Unlike traditional coin-operated or gated lots, they can be used with just a smartphone and no cash.

Rapidly expanding in urban areas, major parking operators like Times and Repark are also adopting QR code systems.

Entry to Exit Flow

Typical QR code parking lot usage:

  1. Entry: Receive a QR code ticket from the entry machine (or use app for entry)
  2. Park: Park in an available space
  3. Payment: Scan QR code at payment machine before exit, pay by credit card or electronic money
  4. Exit: Hold paid QR code to gate to exit

App-enabled lots allow pre-payment from your car via smartphone for smooth exit.

Supported Payment Methods

Common payment methods at QR code parking lots:

  • Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, etc.)
  • Electronic money (transit IC cards, iD, QUICPay)
  • QR code payments (PayPay, d-barai, Rakuten Pay)

Supported methods vary by lot, so check the payment machine display before entering. Choosing lots with cash-capable machines provides a backup option.

Troubleshooting

If the QR code won't scan, try maximizing screen brightness, wiping off dirt, or adjusting the angle. If it still won't read, use the intercom on the payment machine to contact an operator.

If you lose your ticket, your license plate number may be needed to verify entry time. The parking management company's contact information is posted on signs within the lot.
